Last year Amare Stoudemire and Nene Hilario were our top sleeper picks. Amare, despite being a high schooler, had a phenominal pre-season as a rookie and the lack of big men with the Suns lead us to believe he would get plenty of opportunity to shine. Talent and opportunity is usually the key to surprising seasons and sleeper selections. This year while King James is getting all the hype (deservedly so) we think Carmelo Anthony shouldn't be overlooked. He'll rack up points in most categories across the board and provide the Nuggets with the scoring they have been missing. Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are also rookies we like very much to emerge as the season goes on. TJ Ford should also get ample opportunities. Pre-Season All-Sleeper Team: PG: Tony Parker (Earl Boykins running in Denver, TJ Ford, Larry Hughes also) SG: Dwyane Wade (Eddie Jones will also have a big year, Voshon Lenard, Ron Mercer) SF: Carmelo Anthony. Andrei Kirilenko (taking over in Utah and good source of unexpected blocks and solid all-around), Antoine Walker (don't let trade to deep Dallas offense discourage you as he will be more selective and have a better all-around game as point-forward), Stephen Jackson, Mike Dunleavy, Lamond Murray. PF: Zachary Randolph (getting the opportunity as a starter this year to do what he did at the end of the year). Chris Bosh, Jerome Williams, Brian Grant, Nene, Danny Fortson, Chris Andersen. C: Marcus Camby (health always a question though). Eddie Curry had great second half and huge skills. Ilgauskas a great center option who usually slides due to health. Mehmet Okur. Jamaal Magloire. Alonzo Mourning. Radoslav Nesterovic would be the pick but hasn't shown as much offensively in new Spurs home as he had in MN. |
